Happy Beltane (or May Day)! ☀️🌸 Beltaine, Happy Beltane (or May Day)! ☀️🌸

Beltaine, or Bealtaine, is celebrated May 1, marking the midway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere (though that actual point is May 5 this year).

Beltane comes from the Irish Gaelic for “Day of Fire,” and it was traditionally celebrated with a large bonfire. The fire protects, as the fairies were thought to be especially mischievous today, but it also serves as a celebration of the return of warm weather, of the cattle to their pastures, and of the fertility of green, growing things (and other things too 😉)

Recognizing these older agricultural holidays helps me to better recognize and honor the natural rhythms in my own body and life.

Now is the time to stoke your inner fire, to tend your life force, your creativity, your passions.

We had our bonfire over the weekend, so for today I’ll be burning one of these candles I made over the winter for protection – and for some coziness on this dreary, rainy May Day.

A candle for sitting in and harnessing your power – inspired by the witchy women of the past and folklore
